D O HILL & ROBERT ADAMSON

The Bicentenary of David Octavius Hill, 1802-1870

David Octavius Hill and Robert Adamson 1821-1848 were the first in the world to realise the artistic possibilities of the new medium of photography. See Hill & Adamson – a Brief History .

In 2002, to mark the bicentenary of Hill’s birth, a series of exhibitions and events were held, including an international conference and a celebrity lecture, and a major educational project was launched.

D O HILL 2002 was organised by the Scottish Society for the History of Photography, sponsored by Lloyds TSB Scotland and with financial support from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
